Nerds!” That is most notably the biggest quoted line from the movie Revenge of the Nerds. A large drunken football player and many of the other stereotypical characters do the same throughout the movie. The group of people that the football players were angry with were the most intelligent people on the college campus. The stereotype of the intelligent people on the college campus has not changed very much over the years. Those stereotypes include difficulty communicating with others. Not able to dress one’s self. They are physically awkward. And have habits that do not fit in with what is considered societal norms. Where did that stereotype come from? Are highly intelligent people really socially awkward? Are they weaklings that cannot defend themselves? Who are the smartest people in the world and do they fit into this stereo type of a nerd?
10. Stephen Hawking IQ of 160
Intelligence is awesome for coming up with new creative ways to help our lives. In the case of Stephen Hawking’s he has used his intellect to fight Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. This condition has made him wheel chair bound, but has not stopped him from getting many different awards including the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He received this award in 2009. Although that should be considered the greatest award that Hawking’s received in his lifetime. His greatest achievement in his lifetime that he has received is the character he played on the Simpsons. The stereotype of an old never fit into the world of the Simpsons, let alone fight a disease that most people would consider a death sentence and never do anything of any consequence in their lives.
9. Judit Polgar IQ of 170
Defining intelligence cannot be left to men. Judith Polgar unseated Booby Fischcer as the youngest grand champion. In order to do the feet she need to defeat all male opponents, and she became the the chess grand champion in one month. More importantly than being extremely successful at a game is that she can speak four languages. Not only could she beat you at a gun game but she could smack talk you in a different language.
8. Paul Allen IQ of 170
Paul Allen is a very quiet person. The co-founder of Microsoft has a quiet demeanor that would lead you to believe that he is your prototypical “nerd”. That would be a wrong assumption Allen owns several professional sports teams. He has started different other companies like DreamWorks. He also built the Experience Music Project in Seattle, WA. He may be quiet but Allen has been very influential in the greater Seattle area. He also dated tennis champion Monica Seles. If the stereotype of intelligence were true, Allen may have never wanted anything to with athletics, especially date an athlete.
7. James Woods IQ of 180
This award winning actor does not look like the stereotype of what people that are very intelligent think would be. Although he could have pursued a career in academia Woods decided to become an actor. Choosing the career of an actor is truly as far from an introvert as you can possibly go.
6. Garry Kasparov IQ of 190
Garry Kasparov was the youngest chess champion. Becoming a grand champion at the age of twenty-two. More importantly, since he has retired from the game of chess he has become a political activist. He is the founder of the United Civil Front. It is a paper to advocate for Democracy in Russia. Could a tiny week person pull off a paper that battles the government in a country that has always been anti-free-press? Not likely.
5. Marilyn vos Savant IQ of 190
Marilyn vos Savant is the second woman on this list. She is most known for her Ask Marilyn column that comes out every week in Parade magazine. Savant’s column allows the reader to match wits with her. Usually the reader loses to the writer. Not only does Savant not fit the stereotype of an intelligent person since she has a vastly popular column in a major paper, she also is very attractive, which is directly contradictory to the stereotype of the intelligent person.
4. Rick Rosner IQ of 192
Rick Rosner is a television writer creating such great show such as CHIP’s. Rosner would also like to be known as a stripper, and a model. The idea that most intelligent people are socially awkward is false. How could Rosner be able to model if he were socially awkward? Wouldn’t like to be a good looking smart person?
3. Kim Ung-Yong IQ of 220
Kim Ung-Yong could read several different languages by the time he turned two years old. He was able to solve complicated calculus problems by the age of four. Ung-Yong was invited to study in the United States from NASA at the age of fourteen. How many people would be invited anywhere if they could not follow certain societal norms? Ung-Yong obviously doesn’t fit into the stereotype of an intelligent person. He is the perfect role model for an intelligent person to look to when they are down in the dumps because they might have some struggles going on in their lives.
2. Christopher Hirata IQ of 225
Christopher Harata has been working with NASA on their plans on Mars and how to possibly colonize the planet. You’re probably starting to say that he is exactly what an intelligent person is doing in their career. Having seen the movie Total Recall, colonizing Mars is not an endeavor for someone of average intelligence. Currently he is teaching astrophysics in the California Institute of Technology.
1. Ternce Tao IQ of 230
Terence Tao is seen at the top of most every list of intelligent people. Currently he is a professor at UCLA. Obviously he does not fit the true stereotype of an intelligent person. There is no way that he would be able to teach, let alone would he be allowed to teach at one of the most prestigious colleges in the United States.
Movies are for entertainment. There are many time that they reflect society’s beliefs. One of those stereotypes is of intelligent people. They are called nerds geeks, or dweebs. They’re considered socially awkward, and weak. Looking at the ten most intelligent people in the world not only is that stereotype false, they could never been farther from the truth. The fact of the matter is that intelligence should be celebrated. Without intelligence the wonderful tools that we use every day would have never been invented.
