Racing cars is traditionally associated with men. We see few women on the tracks and it is not uncommon for the few female race car drivers not to be taken seriously. 10. Sabine Schmitz
Sabine Schmitz is not a household name in the U.S. but this German race car drivers is turning heads in Europe. She won in different CHC and VLN race events and is the first woman to have won a 24 hours race event with the 24 hours Nürburgring in 1996 and 1997. Sabine Schmitz is also a qualified helicopter pilot and made a few appearances on Top Gear.
9. Simona de Silvestro
Simona de Silvestro earned the nickname of The Iron Maiden because of her fiery disposition. She was born in Thun, Switzerland and started racing in 2005 at the age of 17. She is currently competing in the IZOD IndyCar Series for KV Racing Technology. Her career highlights include finishing 3rd in the 2009 Atlantic Championship Series and 4th in the Formula BMW USA Series at the age of 18.
8. Leilani Munter
Leilani Munter is competing in the ARCA Racing Series and is originally from Minnesota. She has been racing since 2001 and she became the fourth woman to ever complete the Indy Pro Series in 2007. She is also well-known for her work as an environmentalist and even drove a car with an ocean awareness paint scheme on it in the 2012 ARCA Racing Series.
7. Susie Wolff
Susie Wolff, born Stoddart, started her career at a kart driver and she was named British Woman Kart Racer Driver of the year three years in a row. She raced in the Formula Renault Winter Series in 2001 and raced in the Formula Renault UK Championship several times. She is currently the development driver of the Williams Formula One team.
6. Milka Duno
Milka Duno completed the IndyCar Series and is currently racing in the ARCA Racing Series. She also holds the record for the highest finish for a female driver in the 24 hours of Daytona. She is originally from Venezuela and began her racing career in the 1996 Venezuelan GT Championship. She became the second highest finishing female driver for the ARCA Racing Series in 2012. Milka Duno is also a former model and has four different Master’s degrees!
5. Ashley Force Hood
Ashley Force Hood is the daughter of race car driver John Force. She has not been racing since 2011 to focus on raising her child. She started her career as a drag racer in 2004 at the age of 22. She started professional racing in 2007 for her father’s team, John Force Racing. She was the first female to ever win the NHRA Funny Car in 2008 and also made NHRA history in 2007 by racing against her father.
4. Natacha Gachnang
Natacha Gachnang is fourth on our list of the hottest female race car drivers. She is originally from Switzerland and she was the first ever female driver to compete in the FIA Formula Two Championship in 2008. She start her career in 2001 with kart racing and her career highlights include finishing first in the Spanish Formula Three Series Copa F300 event of 2008 and finishing third in the Class A event. She made the news in 2010 by competing in the 24 hours of Le Mans with an all female team.
3. Danica Patrick
Danica Patrick is the most well-known female race car driver in the U.S. She is originally from Wisconsin and she began her racing career at the young age of 16. She competed in the Indianapolis 500 in 2005 and has competed in the IndyCar Series on a regular basis until 2011. She is now focusing on the NASCAR Nationwide Series where she drives the GoDaddy car. Her career highlights include taking 5th in the 2009 IndyCar Series and 10th in the 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series.
2. Madalena Antas
Madalena Antas is a Portuguese race car driver. She has posed for many magazines and mostly competes in rally events. Her mother, Teresa Cupertino de Miranda also competed in the Dakar rally event before her. She took part in her first Dakar in 2006 and participated in other editions of the Dakar ever since. She races in memory of her mother and has proved that racing in difficult environments such as sand dunes is not for men only.

1. Shannon McIntosh
Shannon McIntosh began her racing career in 2011 at the age of 22. She is originally from Ohio and won as many as 100 races as a child in the Quarter Midgets and in the USAC Midgets Series, starting at the very young age of 5. She was the only woman to compete in the US F2000 National Championship and the only American female race car driver in The Road to Indy. She finished 8th in the 2011 and the 2012 edition of the US F2000 National Championship. She recently signed with Cunningham Motorsports for the 2014 season for the ARCA Racing Series.
