While food is necessary to survive, people also enjoy eating. They make a night out at a nice restaurant, they enjoy a big meal at home with family. While most foods are inexpensive, there are some that are ridiculously overpriced. Here is a list of the top 10 most expensive foods in the world.

This is because they are very difficult to find. These mushrooms are usually found hidden under leaves in the forest. These mushrooms can be found in several places such as Japan, China, Korea, the United States, Canada, Finland, and Sweden. Japan’s typical annual harvest is less than one thousand tons. These mushrooms cost $1,000 each. You certainly will not find these mushrooms in the produce section of your local grocery store.

 

9- Westin Hotel Bagel

This is not your typical bagel. It was created by Frank Tujague, the Executive Chef at New York’s Westin Hotel. This bagel contains a white truffle cream cheese with goji berry infused Riestling jelly complemented with golden leaves. This Italian wonder costs $1,000 per bagel. That is an expensive breakfast and that price does not even include a cup of coffee. Who would have thought that a New York bagel would find itself on the top 10 most expensive foods in the world list.

This omelet which is served at Norma’s, a restaurant in New Yorks Le Parker Meriden Hotel takes omelets to a whole new level. They have added lobster claws and 10 ounces of caviar into six fresh eggs. This version will cost you $1,000. You can also order a lesser our day when you think about what you paid for it.

This wildly expensive steak was available in New York’s Craftsteak. The cows used for this beef are raised in Japan. They massaged daily and fed with beer to ensure that the meat will be tender. This steak was priced at $2,800. Unfortunately however, if you want this dish it is not possible. Craftsteak was replaced by Colicchio & Sons and this is not on their menu. This steak is one of the top ten most expensive foods in the world and for some it will be missed.

This incredibly delicious and incredibly expensive dish was created by Bombay Brassiere. They wanted to make this dish for the winners of the popular television show Who Wants to be a Millionaire? This dish contains Beluga caviar in a gold leaf, gold coated Scottish lobsters, Devon crab, white truffle, four abalones, and four quail eggs filled with more caviar. At $3,200 a plate, most people will never find out exactly how delicious it truly is.

 

5- Domenico Crolla’s Pizza Royale 007

This pizza pie was created by Scottish chef Domenico Crolla. He is best known for putting portraits in his pizza pies. He decided to do one about based on the 007 James Bond films. The producers of the James Bond films did not ask Chef Crolla to make this pizza pie or pay him to do so. It is something he did on his own for the love of the movies. This extravagant pie is 12 inches. It is filled with cognac marinated  lobster, champagne marinated caviar, smoked salmon, tomato sauce, prosciutto,  balsamic vinegar, and venison medallions. As if this pizza is not extravagant enough, it is topped with 24 carat gold flakes that are edible. This dish will run you $4,200 a pie.

 

4- Densuke Black Watermelon

This watermelon can only be found in Japan’s island Hokkaido. There are only a few dozen watermelons harvested every year. Its crispiness and the level of sweetness cannot be compared to any watermelon in the world. A watermelon that weighs 17 pounds will cost you $6,100.

This type of cantaloupe is in very high demand due to its sweetness and proportion. This fruit is very rare in also in very high demand. They often have auctions just to sell these fruits. In 2008, an auction was held where there were 100 Yubari for sale. A businessman who owned a seafood restaurant won the first melon up for auction, which was by far the best. He won it by bidding an astonishing $23,000. This watermelon has definitely earned its place in the top 10 most expensive foods in the world.

 

2- Almas Caviar

This caviar is extremely rare. It is made in Iran. While any type of caviar can be rather pricey, this one takes the cake. It can only be found in the Caviar House & Prunier which is located in London’s Picadilly. This product is sold per kilo. It is packaged in a 24 carat gold tin. If you want this tin, you will be looking at spending $25,000. There is a smaller tin available also for $1,250. This is the most expensive caviar in the world.

 

1- Italian White Alba Truffle

This dish tops this list as the most expensive food in the world. Truffles are very expensive items. This is because they are very difficult to cultivate. In Hong Kong, a huge white alba truffle was sold that weighed 1.51 kilograms. A retail investor and his wife purchased the truffle for $160,000.  Most people don’t spend that on their entire grocery bill for twenty years.

While these incredibly expensive dishes may taste divine, most people would not spend the kind of money necessary to find out exactly how divine.
