James Bond is the man women want to be with and men want to be. The James Bond movies have been thrilling audiences for more than 40 years, with over 20 films during that time. Each movie is jam-packed with exciting fight scenes, one-liners, tantalizingly beautiful ‘Bond Girls,’ and of course, James Bond’s sexy debonair demeanor. Although there are more than 20, 10 of these amazing movies stand out to be the best James Bond movies ever.
#10 – On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
The film, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service” definitely makes the list of best James Bond movies. Bond was played by George Lazenby with Diana Rigg portraying the legendary ‘Bond Girl, Tracy Di Vicenzo.’ Although Lazenby gave a less than stellar performance in this film, the action and love interactions, albeit Bond failed, were amazing. This movie includes a bobsled fight and an epic car chase, and the viewer is at the edge of their seat for the entire length of the film, until that final, tragic ending.
#9 – Diamonds Are Forever
In 1971, Sean Connery returned to the big screen as James Bond in “Diamonds are Forever.” Alongside him, were Jill St. John and Lana Wood, staring as the ‘Bond Girls’ Tiffany Case and Plenty O’Toole, respectively. In this action-packed Bond film, 007 investigates diamond-smuggling, and of course there’s a car chase that ends in Las Vegas. Sadly, however, this best James Bond movie ends Sean Connery’s run as Bond, as he’s sent off in the 007 canon.
#8 – Licence to Kill
Timothy Dalton makes his second appearance as James Bond in “License to Kill,” which debuted in 1989. Talisa Soto, who played Lupe Lamora, and Carey Lowell as Pam Bouvier, were the ‘Bond Girls’. Although not as thrilling of an adventure that is usually found in a Bond movie, this film featured amazing stunts, a revenge plot, and sneering villains, Franz Sanchez, Milton Krest, and Dario, played by Robert Davie, Anthony Zerbe, and Benicio Del Toro, respectively. Bond heads out to avenge his friend’s wife’s death, with a global drug cartel leader in his target, and possibly becomes the toughest and most unstoppable Bond to appear yet.
#7 – For Your Eyes Only
In the 1981 James Bond movie, “For Your Eyes Only,” Roger Moore takes the role of Bond for the fifth time, with Carole Bouquet and Lynn-Holly Johnson as ‘Bond Girls’ Melina Havelock and Bibi Dahl. In older James Bond movies, the gadgets were over the top, which changed to a more low-key approach in this film, mostly due to the excess that was found in the previous two films, “The Spy Who Loved Me” and “Moonraker.” This film makes the best James Bond movies list not due to the writing, but from the exciting action scenes, featuring a ski slope chase, and a race up a mountain.
#6 – The Spy Who Loved Me
This film featured Roger Moore in the role of James Bond for a third time, and was definitely the high point of his career as Bond, with less than stellar performances in subsequent films. ‘Bond Girls’ were played by Caroline Munro and Barbara Bach, and “The Spy Who Loved Me” didn’t lack in action-packed scenes. The plot begins with Bond skiing off a cliff in order to escape bad guys, and continues to stay over-the-top, as Bond works to prevent a diabolical plan devised by Richard Kiel, to nuke the earth. Add the suspense and action to a ‘Bond Girl’ with a nickname of Triple X, and you’ve got one amazing film, definitely deserving to be on the list of top ten best James Bond movies.
#5 – Casino Royale
Daniel Craig stars as James Bond in the 2006 film, “Casino Royale” and attempts to add human characteristics to the character. He does so successfully, following a failed romance with ‘Bond Girl’ Eva Green’s character Vesper Lynd. It is after this failed attempt at yet another James Bond relationship that Bond becomes a calculated killer as opposed to an average, run-of-the-mill spy. Other ‘Bond Girls’ in this film included Ivana Milicevic and Caterina Murino. Although this film is long, a little too long, perhaps, it brought together long-time Bond fans and younger viewers getting their first glance at one of the best James Bond movies ever.
#4 – Golden Eye
The only James Bond actor young people often know is Pierce Brosnan, although he was in less Bond movies than both Sean Connery and Roger Moore. In this 1995 film, “Golden Eye,” Brosnan’s only Bond movie to make the top ten best James Bond movies list, he makes his debut, bringing back the tongue-and-cheekiness of the Connery era. Brosnan, alongside his girls, Izabella Scorupco and Famke Janssen, works through the film attempting to prevent computer devastation to the world at the hands of villain Alec Trevelyan, played by Sean Bean. You will find many one-liners, lots of action, sexy ‘Bond Girl’ names, like Onatopp, and another great Bond film.
#3 – Dr. No
Sean Connery stars as Bond in the 1962 film, “Dr. No.” Although this is the first actual James Bond movie, it was written to match a series of spy adventures, including “Casino Royale” which was produced in 1954. Alongside Ursula Andress staring as Honey Ryder, Connery has a stunning performance, owning the role of James Bond, more than anyone else could in the films that followed. Although this film is a little slower-paced compared to other Bond films, it is quite possibly one of the best to portray Ian Fleming’s vision of what he wanted with these films.
#2 – From Russia With Love
Sean Connery makes his third appearance on the list of best James Bond movies with “From Russia With Love.” In this movie, he stars alongside Daniela Bianchi as the sexy ‘Bond Girl,’ bringing romance to the scene. This movie also brings action-packed scenes that have never been done in a Bond film before, including a never-forgotten fight scene on a passenger train. In, addition, Blofeld, the iconic criminal of Bond films, also comes to light, although his physical appearance remains a mystery for another four years, in the 1967 Bond movie, “You Only Live Twice.”
#1 – Goldfinger
Definitely the top movie on the list is “Goldfinger.” This James Bond movie is perhaps the most known, most quoted from, and definitely the most characteristic ‘Bond’ movie out there. With ‘Bond Girl’ names like Pussy Galore, played by Honor Blackman, and Jill Masterson, played by Shirley Eaton, not much more is needed. However, “Goldfinger” has it all, with Sean Connery making his fourth appearance on the list of best James Bond movies ever. This movie is best described by a quote from the movie, spoken by Bond, “Shocking! Positively shocking!” Mind you, this snarky one-liner comes just after he tosses a lamp into a bathtub where, of course, the bad guy is.
With over 20 James Bond films out there, it’s definitely hard to choose the top ten. They are all amazing, action-packed, sexy films, bringing together man’s favorite activities – sex and action, not to mention the sexy actors portraying Bond. From Sean Connery and Roger Moore to Pearce Brosnan and Daniel Craig, ladies couldn’t be more pleased with these movies either. They are considered the definition of spy films, and there’s definitely more to come in this sultry, sexy, action series.
